About Lane

Born in Carmel, Lane first began learning the Great Highland Bagpipe at the young age of seven. Growing up, Lane was immersed in the world of bagpiping and pipe bands, as her mother, Missy Jenkins Olson, is also a piper. Missy was one of the original pipers at the Inn at Spanish Bay when it opened in 1987.

Missy’s interest in the pipes was inspired by her grandfather, who served in World War I with the Royal 42nd Highlanders of the Black Watch. Lane’s older sister, Audrie Jenkins, became a competitive snare drummer with the Prince Charles Pipe Band, performing multiple times at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow.

One of Lane’s earliest memories dates back to 1997, when at just three years old she toured Scotland with her family as Audrie’s band competed in — and won — the World Championships.

Lane was first taught by her mother and later received instruction from respected teachers including Robert Boyd, Bill Merriman, and Ken Sutherland. She has also studied in workshops under world-renowned bagpipers Roddy MacLeod and Willie McCallum.

For many years, Lane performed and competed with the world-champion Prince Charles Pipe Band of San Francisco. As a soloist, she has won top prizes at Highland Games throughout California.

Since she was 14, Lane has been honored to serve as one of the “Sunset Bagpipers” at the Inn at Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach, and has since performed for hundreds of events throughout the region.
